Our hearts are the center the human body, and neglecting its health is a potentially fatal mistake. With more than one million people suffering heart attacks in the United States alone, it’s important to teach our families how to practice healthy heart habits at a young age, before serious complications can develop. Knowing your risk coupled with preventative screenings can greatly reduce factors that lead to heart disease.

That’s why Aventura Hospital & Medical Center wants to remind South Florida that the flutter they feel around Valentine’s Day may mean something more serious than love. Community members of all ages are invited to care for their hearts and enjoy this family fair. The fun events culminate a full month of raising awareness for heart disease and heart healthy practices during National Heart Month, celebrated every February.

Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with our heart experts across varying fields including nursing, emergency care and rehabilitation as they browse booths filled with information on nutrition, heart healthy exercises, fun heart facts, and heart attack and stroke warning signs. Even community partners have joined the cause, including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt.

Aventura Hospital & Medical Center’s  Heart Healthy Fair also will feature a heart healthy cooking demonstration with executive chef Alex Mentis to a special lecture on new advancements in cardiac care. Other events scheduled include heart assessments, and blood pressure and BMI screenings.
