Coronavirus: Girl Scout cookies available via Grubhub amid COVID-19 pandemic

Hamstrung by the novel coronavirus, Girl Scouts have launched the first national delivery services collaboration in the organization’s history, tapping Grubhub Inc. to help their members ensure 2021 cookie sales are safe and socially distant.

Beginning Feb. 1, the online food ordering and delivery platform will begin accepting orders for the annual delicacies and, in select locations, pickup and delivery can be arranged through the Grubhub app or website, Good Morning America reported.

Specifically, cookie fans can use the cookie finder website or app to find out if contact-free deliveries are available in their area.

“We’re proud of the resourceful ways Girl Scouts are running their cookie businesses safely and using their earnings to make the world a better place,” interim GSUSA CEO Judith Batty stated in a news release. “This season, our girls will continue to exemplify what the cookie program taught them: how to think like entrepreneurs, use innovative sales tactics, and pivot to new ways of doing business when things don’t go according to plan.”

Specifically, the partnership will allow local Girl Scouts to leverage Grubhub’s technology to track and fulfill orders while managing inventory, thereby, providing them a “hands-on experience in managing e-commerce,” Batty stated.

Grubhub has also waived its fees for Girl Scouts and is offering free delivery of Girl Scout cookie orders through Feb. 14 with a minimum $15 purchase, PennLive reported.

“Like other people running small businesses, Girl Scouts are growing their cookie sale online to connect to consumers who may be harder to reach during the pandemic, all while staying resilient and learning skills such as money management, goal setting, and customer service,” Batty added. “We are excited to open virtual cookie booths beginning February 1 to customers who don’t know a Girl Scout so they can still support girls during this challenging time for all of us.”

New to the cookie lineup for 2021 in select markets is the Toast-Yay cookie, an icing-dipped confection inspired by French toast. Meanwhile, the following favorites are also still available:

• Thin Mints

• Lemon-Ups

• Lemonades

• Shortbread/Trefoils

• Caramel deLites/Samoas

• Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs

• Do-si-dos/peanut butter sandwiches

• Toffee-tastic

• Caramel Chocolate Chip

• And two kinds of S’mores - graham sandwich and a graham cookie dipped in creme icing and covered in chocolate

In addition to buying directly from a favorite Girl Scout, using the organization’s website or the collaborative cookie finder app, shoppers may also text COOKIES to 59618 to find cookies available in their area, PennLive reported.
