WASHINGTON — A piece of coronavirus pandemic history is being donated to the Smithsonian Institution.

The model used by Dr. Anthony Fauci as part of his explanation of COVID-19 was donated to the National Museum of American History on Tuesday, The Associated Press reported.

Museum officials had asked Fauci to donate a personal item to the institution in advance of the museum presenting him with its Great Americans Medal.

The model was made on a 3D printer and illustrates “the various components of the SARS-CoV-2 virion including the spike protein,” the AP reported.

Fauci called the honor “extraordinary and humbling” as he joins past winners like Madeline Albright and Gen. Colin Powell.

This isn’t Fauci’s first honor bestowed on him for his work with infectious diseases. In 2008, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by then-President George W. Bush for his work on the AIDS crisis, the AP reported.
