Good Samaritan rescues baby who fell into bay after Maryland car crash, officials say

OCEAN CITY, Md. — A man is being hailed as a hero after officials said he jumped into a Maryland bay to save a baby who had been ejected from a car crash.

According to WBFF and WBAL, the incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday on a bridge on state Route 90 in Ocean City. Emergency crews arrived to find a vehicle partly hanging over a guardrail above Assawoman Bay.

“During the collision, one pediatric patient was ejected from the car teetering over the guardrail and landed into the Assawoman Bay,” the Ocean City Fire Department said in a Facebook post Sunday evening. “A good Samaritan immediately jumped over the guardrail and into the bay, rescuing the infant.”

Crews flew the baby to Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital and rushed seven other patients to nearby hospitals for treatment of their injuries, the department said.

Ocean City police are investigating the incident, according to the news outlets.
