Steven Earl Alford, 47, of Roundhill, is accused of driving his vehicle at speeds up to 143 mph in a 70 mph zone on Saturday, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post.

Nelson was allegedly speeding as he headed east on the Bluegrass Parkway, the sheriff’s office said.

“After a lengthy pursuit,” the sheriff’s office said, Alford ran out of gas and pulled over to the side of the road in Nelson County, WDRB reported.

Deputies said Alford refused to exit his vehicle and “had to be assisted” by deputies and troopers from the Kentucky State Police, according to the Facebook post.

According to Nelson County online booking records, Alford was charged with speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, fleeing or evading police (first degree), reckless driving, four counts of wanton endangerment, driving too fast for conditions, operating on a suspended or revoked license, resisting arrest and an illegible license plate.
