YONKERS, N.Y. — A Yonkers, New York, man who was caught on video punching a 67-year-old Asian woman more than 100 times pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree assault as a hate crime.

The Westchester County District Attorney’s office confirmed the plea entered by 42-year-old Tammel Esco, News 12 Connecticut reported.

In a prepared statement, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah said that Esco “cursed at the victim, punched her more than 100 times in and around her head, repeatedly stomped on her upper body and spit on her” as she entered her Riverdale Avenue apartment building in March, the TV station reported.

According to NBC News, Esco will be sentenced on Nov. 29 to 17 1/2 years in state prison plus five years of post-release supervision, the statement continued.

Video surveillance from the apartment showed that the victim was punched 125 times, in what Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller called “one of the most appalling attacks I have ever seen,” the network reported.

Esco, who was arrested the day of the brutal attack, has been held without bail since he was taken into custody.

According to the district attorney’s office, the woman was transported to an area medical center for treatment of bleeding in her brain, multiple facial fractures and bruising and laceration to her head and face.

Esco and the victim lived in the same building, and police confirmed that he has a criminal record and previously served time for assault, WNBC-TV reported.

“This was an incredibly traumatic event for the Asian-American community,” Westchester Asian-American Advisory Board co-chairman David Imamura told News 12 Connecticut.

“To have everything on video was just awful, and for us to be in a situation where we can say justice has been served I think is very valuable,” he added.
