Party City had previously closed 28 stores in 13 states before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January, Business Insider reported. The company currently has 823 retail locations, 770 of which are owned by the company.

The documents list four stores in New York and three in Michigan among the closures. The stores which will go up for auction are spread across nine states, with two in Georgia and one each in New York and Michigan.

When it filed for bankruptcy, Party City blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for slowing sales due to lockdowns and store closures, as well as inventory shortages and difficulty obtaining helium, Reuters reported.

Party City’s subsidiaries outside of the United States are unaffected by the bankruptcy proceedings, according to Reuters.
