WATCH: ICU doctor’s video recreates dying patient’s view, urges people to take COVID-19 seriously

ST. LOUIS — A Missouri doctor left little to the imagination recently when he posted a video to social media recreating the final moments of a typical COVID-19 patient’s life.

The video, tweeted by Dr. Kenneth Remy on Saturday, begins with the intensive care unit doctor pulling the camera in and out to mimic a struggling patient breathing 40 times per minute. He then takes a tube and simulates putting it down the camera’s lens to recreate what a patient being hooked up to a ventilator sees, KSTU reported.

“I hope that the last moments of your life don’t look like this because this is what you’ll see at the end of your life if we don’t start wearing masks when we’re out in public,” Remy said in the video, pleading with viewers to take the novel coronavirus pandemic more seriously.

Remy, a pediatric and adult critical care physician-scientist at Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, told CNN that he has treated more than 1,000 COVID-19 patients and said more than 10% of those patients have required intubations. He also runs the university’s COVID-19 laboratory that is testing new treatments to help boost survival rates.

In the video, Remy then holds up a laryngoscope and breathing tube and speaks directly to viewers.

“I promise you this is what your mother or your father or your children, when they get COVID disease, will see at the end of their life. This is serious. I beg you: Please practice the precautions to reduce transmission of COVID disease, so that we can effectively prevent disease for you and your loved ones,” he said.
